Quilts 13 and 14 were made as a response to a residency for London Craft Week at The Ace Hotel in Shoreditch. We decided to make a pair of quilts based on The Barbican, designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. This front illustrates the balconies from Lauderdale Tower, using a vintage Issey Miyake Plantation dress that makes up the cast concrete. The blue is one of architect James Stirling’s iconic shirts.
The reverse is a detail from one of the vents, and is made up from a selection of white shirts and napkins from artist Simon Popper and chef Fergus Henderson. The red is a worn to perfection Comme des Garçon T shirt belonging to David Lao.
