Based on Oscar Niemeyer’s Communist Party Head Quarters in Paris built in 1967, the abstract nature of the building’s form makes up the front of the quilt. The clothes used include a greatly loved Plantation dress and trousers by Issey Miyake worn by Annabelle’s mother, a Victorian nightdress with the monogrammed embroidery around the neck remaining and Brookes Brothers shirts belonging to Annabellelle’s brother, chef Fergus Henderson.
The piecework on the reverse of the quilt is based on a random composition from the patching of a corrugated barn close to the Wiltshire studio.
