Quilt 20

H 160cm x W 164cm
Cotton and Bamboo

POA

This quilt is a sister to Quilt 21. The starting point for the two quilts was a pair of identical black, woven cotton tunics belonging to Annabelle’s mother, Elizabeth Henderson, from Maureen Doherty’s shop, Egg in the mid 1990s.

The abstract shapes and patterns that make up the fronts of both quilts are formed by the deconstructed tunics. The panels, pockets, sleeves, collars and cuffs are reconstructed into new configurations.

The reverse of this quilt incorporates the smaller elements of the tunic. The collar and cuffs are stacked and sewn to suggest an architectural form.
