POA

Along with the Schindler House referred to in Quilt 48, we visited the Eames House, designed by Ray and Charles Eames for themselves in 1949 as both home and studio. Using a collection of clothes from Penelope Curtis’ youth and an ancient French workman’s jacket belonging to Annabelle’s partner, Stephen Harty, we explored the buildings relationship to its surrounding landscape, in particular the now mature Eucalyptus trees that front the building. The modular nature of the building’s construction is offset by the organic nature of the trees that front it.

The reverse of the quilt uses a series of trouser legs to mirror the modular nature of the building and to trace the side elevation of the studio half of the building.
