Fergus Henderson, chef and owner of St John Restaurant in Clerkenwell, is Annabelle’s brother. In a large bag of old clothes we inherited from his family, there was one of his much loved jackets. He is a creature of habit and, once unpicked we were stunned by the description of his movement and behaviour in the cloth of each of the pieces.

We decided to make a portrait. This took the form of three smaller quilts, to encourage the eye to take a more intimate look at the wear of the garment, rather than the forms of the negative spaces, that are made up of two of his old loved shirts.
